A Florida man pulled over during a traffic stop used his infant as a shield, according to police.
Zachary Taylor McKinney, 31, was arrested Monday when police pulled him over on the interstate, “due to concerns regarding a child custody/Baker Act issue,” according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.
Arresting officers said McKinney refused to obey “basic commands” and appeared to be under the influence of narcotics.
McKinney used his baby to shield him from officers, but the special tactics team was able to rescue the child and arrest the father.
The baby was unharmed.
McKinney was taken to the hospital for evaluation, then transferred to jail. During the transport, he allegedly attacked the deputies, kicking, scratching and trying to bite, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials then took McKinney back to the hospital due to his “elevated vitals and mannerisms," where he allegedly attacked a medical staff member, choking him and shoving his fingers in the man’s mouth. The staffer suffered injuries to his face, neck, mouth and stomach
